Three-Dimensional Numerical Study Of Glass Flow In A Forehearth

A mathematical model for computing the steady state 3 dimensional flow of molten glass in a forehearth is described. This model is based on the weak coupling approximation, so that the 3-D problem is reduced to a set of 2-D problems. Variations of viscosity and thermal conductivity with temp are considered. The calculated isothermal pattern and helical flow agree well with the experiments and confirm the validity of the approximation. The influence of flow-rate variation is considered.
