Solar control of automotive glazing has become a global trend because of the need to increase passenger comfort and lower fuel consumption due to the air conditioner (A/C). This can help smaller eco-cars to carry smaller and lighter A/C units. Current technology provides metal-coated glass and a heat reflective PET film laminated with a PVB interlayer. However, with these technologies, a big investment is required and material handling in the glass laminating process is costly with relatively low yield. New PVB interlayer film with an IR cut-off function offered by Sekisui Chemical can solve these problems. This article looks at the company's special grade S-LEC Film PVB interlayer which effectively reduces incoming heat through laminated windows with some special features such as electromagnetic transparency.
