Theoretical Calculation Of Loss On Ignition Of Clay Material Used In E-Glass Production

Different grades of clay can be used as a source of Al203 both in E-glass and ceramic production. Due to the direct effect on the quality of the product, and for the stability of production, it is essential to maitain ongoing control on the chemical compositional stability of the material used. Modern analytical techniques are available and fairly widespread for rapid analysis of the raw material used and over the years, X-ray fluorescence has become the most commonly used technique. In this study, five clay samples have been analysed by six different laboratories. The difference on experimental values of L.O.I. (loss on ignition) ranges from 0.1 to 0.3%.
