The current year has been one of the best for Thailand's automotive glass producers and suppliers. Consumption of auto glass in the country hit a 62 month high in October 2018. The Federation of Thai Industries has increased its projection for the country's automotive glass output in 2018 after recording huge growth in domestic sales. The 2018 projection for car production is at 2.1m units, up by 5.59% from 2017. The local market has driven the higher output, with 1m cars sold so far in 2018, up by 14.7%. The domestic market is predicted to exceed the 1m unit level for the first time since 2013, when it was propelled by the government's first time car buyer scheme. However, car exports will remain lukewarm for the third consecutive year, with shipments projected at 1.1m units in 2018, down by 3.4% from a year earlier.
