Testures In Glass Ceramics Of The System Li2O-Al2O3-Sio2

A bulk glass and a thin sol-gel film near the molar composition Li2O.Al2O3.SiO2. were crystallized by appropriate heat treatments. Whereas the interior of the glass displayed randomly oriented spodumene crystals, the rim showed an alignment of the crystals normal to the surface. With X-ray pole figure measurements a (111) fibre texture could be confirmed. Atomic force microscope images also proved an orientation in the crystallized film and the pole figures confirmed a similar fibre texture as in the case of the crystalline surface layer on the bulk material.
