Test Results Of In-Flight Glass Melting Using One-Ton/Day Large Scale Experimental Melter

This paper explains how the granulated batch can be vitrified in the oxy-gas flame. No seeds over 1mm were found in the melted glass. The analysed Na2O% is 15.4% while the analysed batch of Na2O was 15.6%. One pair of screw type stirrers gave good glass homogeneity. The melted glass had low Fe3/Fe2 ratio. The Rapidox measurement of the melted glass showed low oxygen activity. Current specific heat with this experimental furnace is around 4.45GJ/ton-glass.
