Technical Results And Economical Considerations On Fused Cast Crown Applications For Oxyfired Furnaces

The glass manufacturing community faces a time of unparalleled change in its business structure. This is causing a deep review of the glass production chain. Oxy-fuel melting is among the most significant technologies to have resulted from this process. Unprecedented refractory corrosion challenges have led to the development of new fused cast refractory applications for critical areas such as the crown. Fused cast alumina has proven to be the best solution to the most challenging combinations of environmental and glass quality problems. The capital and operating cost impact of an alumina crown installation is evaluated in the context of a global conversion from air to oxy-fuel firing technology.
