This study reports on the preliminary results of an intercomparison of IR transmittance measurements, supported by some measurements of H profiles with NRA. The aims were to check the interlaboratory reproducibility for various glass compositions and to calibrate glass batches with a known water content, allowing a given laboratory to check that it is using the correct IR procedure for water analysis. In this case, a single laboratory (LG Philips) collected the transmittance curves and calculated the extrema and the water concentration values according to well-specified procedures. The array of silicate glass types is investigated in the present intercomparison included soda-lime glass, borosilicate glass, TV-panel glass and quartz glass; the examined samples were either as received or polished, or thermally treated.
