Swarovski and the Austrian postal service have teamed up to produce a two-stamp special edition with real crystals. The stamps, each of which bears 12 crystals, went on sale on 20 September/04. Months of development by the Austrian state press was required to make a crystal-coated stamp that could withstand rough treatment in automated postal sorting machines. The sparkling stamps are available with a choice of motif: the trademark Swarovski Swan or a cut crystal. A total of 9.6M crystals have been used in the series.
