A Study Of Gas Absorption By A Glass Melt Using Image Recording And Analysis

The investigation of the kinetics of gas absorption in glass melts plays its important role when measuring the values of diffusion coefficients of gases in glass and when describing some technological processes during glassmelting as in refining, foaming or bubble nucleation and growth. This paper presents the diffusion equation, describes the method, the determination of diffusion coefficients of water vapour, oxygen and sulphur dioxide, respectively, in soda-lime glass, the preliminary examination of oxygen-sulphur dioxide gas mixture behaviour in the glass containing iron or sulphate as well as discussion of the method applicability.
