The range of scale within studio glassmaking in the UK is considerable, with Isle of Wight Glass at the top end employing 28 staff, down to tiny studios, operated by a single glassmaker without even an assistant and just about everything in between. Common to all is the knowledge that survival requires tremedous dedication, effort and a mix of talent and ambition, without which - as some individuals have found to their cost - it simply does not work.
