The study is organised in five parts. In the first one different definitions of glass are critically discussed. In the second part, the phenomenology of glass formation from the melt state is described and the concepts of glass transition interval and fictive temperature are given, together with some discussion about the thermodynamic aspecsts of the glass transition. The third part deals with the conditions necessary for obtaining a glass and the structure of glass is described in the fourth part. Finally, in the fifth part the structure of specific glasses is described.
