Strengthening Glass Containers By A Thermochemical Flame Method

A method of sulphuring the surface of glass containers using dimethylsulphoxide (DMS) has been developed. The gas/heat treatment is applied by patented equipment before the containers enter the lehr. Bursting strength increases of 8-20% are reported in trials on champagne and Pepsi Cola bottles and jars.
