Strength Of Porous Glass In Water

Experimental evidence is presented to show that abraded 96% silica glasses recover some of their strength on exposure to water or acid solutions. The strength increase in porous glass is attributed to crack blunting caused by chemical reaction of the silica surfaces with water.
