Stoichiometry Of Slag Hydration With Calcium Hydroxide

Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) is a glassy amorphous waste material formed as a by-product from the production of steel and iron. GGBFS has successfully been used with portland cement to produce cement blends that are more economical, more environmentally friendly, and, in some cases, have performance advantages. However, a through understanding of the hydration mechanism and kinetics has not been fully developed.
