Mechanical mixing is widely used to homogenise the glass mass in the working tanks of furnaces during the production of commercial dishware. This paper reports on a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the work effectiveness of stirrers as a function of the main parameters of the mixing process: Their diameter; depth of submersion in the glass mass; and rotational frequency. Several peculiarities of the mixing process in an oval shaped tank were delineated in addition.
