A Step Closer To Green Glass Melting

In 2007, German furnace manufacturer, Horn Glass Ind AG installed its first furnace for AmBev Vidros Rio in Brazil. The customer is part of the AB-Inbev Group, Brazil's largest consumer goods enterprise and the world's largest brewery. As reported in "Horn News" August 2009, the furnace is operated with an energy consumption of less than 800 kcal/kg and was heated with natural gas. Recently, however, Horn installed additional heating equipment to heat the furnace with biogas, which develops as a by-product, for example, in the agricultural, food and beverage industries. This article provides an overview of the project.
