Spectral Radiation Model For Simulation Of Heat Transfer In Glass Melts

Radiation of heat in the near and mid-infrared wavelength range to the glass melt and into the molten glass is the main mechanism of heat transfer from the combustion space to the melting tank. Since glass is a semi-transparent medium in the mid-infrared, an accurate description of the heat transfer in glass melts requires a spectrally resolved thermal radiation model. In this paper, a newly developed spectral model, using the discrete ordinate method, and example modelling results are presented.
