Sound Advice

Noise can appear a complex subject, but this article intends to simplify the subject. Glass makers and processors test various types of single and double glazing and publish the results. The sound reduction properties (attenuation) are measured at specific frequencies. For ease of comparison, six frequencies are usually quoted ranging from 125 Hertz (125 cycles/second) to 4kHz (4000 cycles/second) and the results are quoted in decibels (dB). The higher the number the better the result. Results are also given for various "Sound Indices."
