Some Technical Aspects Of Glass Substrates For Tft Lcd Applications

This review reflects some of the results of studies to establish the technical feasibility of melting a TFT LCD glass substrate in Taiwan. It begins with the evolution of CRT's to solid state flat panel displays. The basic ideas of matrix display and the advance to active matrix display are highlighted. Some present glass substrates available for TFT LCD applications are mentioned, as well as the manufacturing requirements being identified and their specifications summarised. This is followed by a short explanation on the development of composition and a discussion on refining and conditioning. The float process for borosilicate glass is also described.
