Some Ideas Concerning The Colouring Mechanism Of Cds In Glass

Some CdS-CdSe coloured glasses were synthesized and studied. The recorded electronic spectra show many maxima preceding the classical cut edge. Replacing the usual Zn0 content by some earth alkali oxides, a dependence of the cut edge position on the basicity of glass was evidenced. Some ideas concerning a possible colouring mechanism and interpretation of the peculiarities of these glasses are given.
