Some Ideas Concerning The Coloring Mechanism Of Cds In Glass

Some CdS-CdSe coloured glasses were synthesized and studied. The recorded electronic spectra show many maxima preceding the classical cut edge. Replacing the usual ZnO content by some earth alkali oxides a dependance of the cut edge position upon the basicity of glass was evidenced. Some ideas concerning a possible colouring mechanism and interpretation of the peculiarities of these glasses are advanced.
