Solubility Of Fluoride In Glass

In soda silica glasses, the amount of fluorine necessary to produce opalescence decreased with soda content. The amount of fluorine retained by the glass was a linear function of the amount present in the batch when this did not exceed a certain value (about 7%). When this value was exceeded, the amount of fluorine retained tended to a constant value.
