The Oldfield Award is presented for research projects carried out by either undergraduate or taught masters students. It is open to UK & international students. There are first, second and third prizes (£500/£250/£150). The subject of the project can be any experimental or theoretical investigation related to amorphous solids, glasses, glass-ceramics, sol-gel materials or ormocers (organic modified ceramics), glass history & archaeology or glass commerce & design. The new "Paul Award" is £250 and free Society of Glass Technology student membership for a year. It is for the best paper presented at the New Researchers Forum at the Annual Conference. The best presentation is judged on clarity, technical content as voted by the audience. The first 2007 winner was Emma Barney of University of Warwick for her paper "Sodium Tellurite Glasses & the Related Metastable Crystal Phases". A new monograph, "Glass-To-Metal Seals by Ian Donald is also available from the Society of Glass Technology, priced at £35 to non-members or £25 to members. Planning for the 2008 Annual Conference is also underway. The meeting will be held 10-12 September 2008 at New Hall College, Cambridge.
