In Situ Chronoamperometric Analyses Of Individual Manganese Redox States In Glass-Forming Melts

Chronoamperometry was combined with square wave voltammetry for the in situ analyses of a series of manganese-containing glass melts at 1150 deg C. Glass melts containing 1wt% Mn were titrated with varying amounts of iron. Analyses monitored the changing manganese redox ion distribution caused by electron exchange reactions with the iron redox ions. This electrochemical technique shows promise for the in situ measurement of individual redox states in glass melts.
