Sisecam Shuts Down Glassware Plant In Beykoz, Turkey

Turkish glassware group, Sisecam, has closed sown its manufacturing facility in Beykoz district, located in the northwest of the country. The unit, named Pasabahce Cam, had steadily become a loss-making operation over the last few years, partly as a result of no investment being made in the plant in recent past. Commenting on the shutdown, Pasabahce authorities indicated that the move followed with the company's review deciding that in view of the plant's poor condition and location, it would be prudent to suspend the operations and avoid further capital losses."Environmentally, it was not acceptable to have a factory on the Bosphorous - a unique geographical formation where the Black Sea is connected with the Aegean through the straits of Istanbul," said the authorities. The unit, which has been operating since 1935, had a capacity to produce 40K/tpa glassware.
