Sisecam Expands Tableware Production In Russia

Turkish glass maker, Sisecam, has acquired the glass tableware production facility LLC Posuda, a division of Russian JSC Borsk Glass, in the Nizhni Novogorod region. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed but the new owner has announced plans to invest US$11M to boost production under its Pasabache tableware brand. Sisecam built a tableware plant in Georgia in 1998 with participation from the EU Bank of Reconstruction and Development and has currently about 10% of the market with the objective of increasing this share to 25-30% with this new investment within three years. The upgrade investment began in the first quarter of this year and will increase output to 90t/d and double the production lines from 2 to 4 to give an annual production of around 60M pieces by 2005.
