Silica Containers In High Performance Glass Melt: Glass Corrosion & Refractory Interaction

Since the development of glasses with high chemical requirement for optical and electronic applications, the need for a high purity environmental for optical and electronic applications, the need for a high purity environment capable to support the melting solicitations was raised. A material of choice is presented with a high purity fused silica chemistry; Zyarock pieces with precise shapes as crubicles, containers and accessories are engineered with this glassy texture to satisfy demanding designs and severe operations conditions. The corrosion behaviour of the fused silica is analyzed and interface mechanism described.
