The Watson Street site in St Helens has been approved as a "supplier of quality glass" for the Sharp solar module manufacturing plant in Wrexham - a move which could result in an extra £4M worth of Pilkington Sunplus sales each year, after Sharp recently announced a £30M investment to double their output of solar panels to over 8000 panels per day over the next 12 months. The audit was initiated through the site's largest customer, German-based CentroSolar Glas, which buys the Group's Pilkington Sunplus low iron rolled glass to edge, coat and toughen for the photovoltaic market - including Sharp UK. This process involves applying an anti-reflective coating that significantly improves the performance of the solar panels.
