Sg 773 Borosilicate Lighting Glass

One of Osram Sylvania's corporate objectives is to produce lighting glass products that are friendly to the environment. Glass, the largest component used in lampmaking, has been the focus of extensive R&D efforts to eliminate lead from the composition. One major success was the development of a new, environmentally friendly borosilicate glass, SG 773, which is used to make high-intensity-discharge (HID) lamps. SG 773 replaced an ld-time, lead and arsenic oxide-containing borosilicate glass (7720, SG 772), which was developed by Corning Inc more than 80 years ago. This glass has been melted at Osram Sylvania's central Falls, R.I., glass plant over many years.
