Service Experience & Postmortem Analysis Of High Alumina Crown Refractories From E-Glass Furnaces

This paper details North American Refractories Company's service experience with mullite bonded high alumina crown refractories in several oxy-fuel fired E-glass furnaces. In addition, a detailed mineralogical examination of used crown refractories removed after more than 70 years of service explains how minimal wear occurred in spite of deep alteration of the refractory.
