A Sense For Soda Ash

AV Technology's unique Silo-Weigh system has successfully completed a six month trial on a 30 metre high, 500 tonne soda ash silo at Pilkington's Greengate flat glass site in St Helens. Pilkington is now looking to have the system installed on its second soda ash silo. The existing instrumentation will be used, thereby significantly reducing the cost per silo system. The Greengate site has two float lines which are operational 24h/day. Together, the lines produce around 8,000 tonnes/week. Soda ash is a critical ingredient and, with a daily usage of over 200 tonnes, monitoring the contents of the two silos to ensure a consistent supply of material is of paramount importance.
