1) Using the technique of excitation of the substance in the cathode layer of the continuous arc with graphite electrodes, the optimum conditions are obtained for the excitation of the element in question, by eliminating possible interferences due to the cyanogen bands. 2) The effect of self absorption or reversibility of the spectral lines is used as the basis of a new method of quantitative analysis, the theoretical basis of which is described. This atomic self absorption, when studied quantitavely, is an exponential function of the concentration of the vaporised and excited elements.
