The selection & use of laminated glass in architectural applications in the US and internationally is dependant on several factors: Code required use due to safety glazing requirements; Structural performance; Design objectives; Standard or custom configurations incorporating special finishes. The architect must become familiar with the glass material's basic strengths & limitations to select the right configuration. After initial glass options & selections are made, the glass components & overall assembly must be further engineered & evaluated to validate the glazing material selection. The glass fabrication process must be understood to evaluate heat strengthening or tempering application, available sizes, types of interlayers, the limitations of fabrication & the glass fabricator's capabilities. This paper looks at specific projects in detail.
