Based on a comprehensive assessment of 8 case studies, this article summarises a report produced by ACR+ for FEVE - the EU glass container association - recommends some simple measures which can greatly improve glass collection and contribute to moving to a circular economy for the glass container industry. ACR+, the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable Resource Management, recommends in addition to the separate collection of glass colours and the installation of state-of-the-art bottle banks (eg underground to reduce noise and litter), the implementation of clear communication messages for consumers and improved traceability of glass, which they say can greatly contribute to better waste management in EU Member States.
