Screen printing ong lass with UV inks has been a real breakthrough, according to Patrick Brunner, Product Manager at Swiss-based Sefar. Typical screen printing applications with UV inks can be: Holloware, such as bottles, drinking glasses, ashtrays, vases, bowls, pharmaceutical glass and cosmetic ware, as well as flat glass including furniture, mirrors, glass room dividers and amusement machines. Printing on glass with UV inks has major advantages compared to enamel inks, namely: They are free from heavy metals and therefore, no legal restrictions apply regarding decorated glass used in the food industry; Considerable energy savings due to lower curing temperature; Higher production speed thanks to faster curing; Excellent printing results because of a wide range of brilliant colours; Good adhesion of highly stressed decorated glass, e.g. scratch resistance, chemical resistance and dishwasher resistance; And, more cost efficient stencils compared to the use of thermoplastic inks because PET mesh instead of stainless steel mesh can be used.
