From Scientific Glassware To Works Of Art

Schott Duran tubing customer, Chemglassware Manufacturers, are now producing works of art - quite literally - thanks to an initiative to get closer to Art & Design Schools. First established in 1994, the company, started by glassblower Ray Tribe and his brother, made scientific glassware. In recent years, they have seen a gradual decline in this market, mainly due to technology changes. As a result of a search for new outlets for their skills, the brothers have developed links with Goldsmiths College and Central St Martins School of Art in London as well as Rome University. Recent commissions have included an intriguing sculpture for Rome University comprising 3 complete glass bottles, one within another. Each bottle moves independently within its outer container, using Schott Duran borosilicate tubing. For more info email: Margaret.Woods@schott.com
