To mark the production of the 50 millionth "Ceran" glass-ceramic cooktop in Mainz earlier this year, Schott unveiled the largest ever glass-ceramic cooktop measuring 3.2x1.2 metres with over 40 cooking zones. The company is aiming for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records which may not be confirmed until next year. The production of this unique glass-ceramic cooktop called for an exceptionally high degree of precision as it was no thicker than a standard panel at only 4mm. The record-sized cooktop was as flexible as a sheet of paper and if, by way of comparison, it was reduced to a normal size it would only have been 0.3mm thick. A special electricity power line and to be installed to supply the nearly 65kW required by the cooker to prepare the meal for the guests during the "Ceran" celebration organised by Schott.
