Saudi Arabia - Trade Ministry Pushes For Soda Ash Duty

Recommendations have been made to the country's government by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Trade to impose an anti-dumping duty on imports of soda ash into the country. The Ministry has suggested that for soda ash originating from the USA, the duty to be levied should be the difference between US$345.4 per tonne and the actual landed value of imports. Effectively, this puts a minimum price on soda ash in the country, and a similar system of differential duties would be applied to soda ash coming from France, Japan and Iran. There would also be a differential anti-dumping duty applied to soda ash originating from within the country. In the case of the two main Saudi soda ash producers, SADF and SABIC, the duty would be the difference between US$270.68 and the landed value of the soda ash.
