Saint-Gobain Glass Egypt: Official Plant Inauguration

The official opening of SG Glass Egypt in Ain Sokhna, was announced by PM Dr.Ahmed Nazif recently in the presence of M. Pierre-Andre de Chalendar, Chairman/CEO SG & other guests. This is SG's 35th float line & is the largest & most modern float plant in the Middle East & Africa, as well as for the group. Located 120k east of Cairo & 40k south of Suez, the line started production July/10 after 28m of construction work. Capital expenditure amounted to EUR 130M. The investment was carried out under the auspices of SG Egypt, a J-V between SG, majority shareholder (51%) & 3 other partners: Egyptian holding MMID associated with M. Ali Moussa (34%), & Sisecam (15%). The facility has a capacity of 900/tpd & will meet domestic demand for flat glass. The remaining 50% will be exported, mainly towards the Middle-East (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan) & Africa.
