Saint-Gobain Emballage (SGE), a unit of France's glass and building materials group Saint-Gobain SA, will cut 118 jobs in its plant in Vauxrot, northern France, as part of a planned restructuring, local media reported on 14 November 2006. The Vauxrot plant produces glass bottles for beer, still wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages and currently employs a workforce of 316. SGE has decided to decrease the number of furnaces at the factory from three to two, which will be upgraded in the next two years. The company plans to invest some EUR 20M to renew production equipment at the plant. SGE is suffering from the slow market for glass bottles in France, which is declining annually at 4.5% in terms of sales. SGE has six production sites in France, employing a staff of 2,000.
