Safety Of Glazing Systems: The Role Of Design

This article aims to draw the attention of glazing systems designers on those elements that may become prejudicial to people's safety. It is the designer's task to evaluate risks and consequently, to identify suitable precautions and arrange relevant applications even at the project stage. In the legislative decree n. 115 of March 17/95, the Italian government acknowledged the 92/59CEE Directive of June 29/92 concerning the general safety of products which are to be replaced from Jan 15/04, by the CE Directive 2001/95 of Jan/02. The new text recalls that the application of the general principles of the directive will be possible if new technical EU standards are drawn up to support them. According to Directives 92/59/CEE & 2001/95/CEE, the rules given in UNI 7697 "Safety Criteria for Glazing Applications" June/02 becomes mandatory.
