[Safety Glazing] Safe As Houses

Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) laminated safety glass comprises two or more annealed or processed panes of glass, bonded to each other by one or more layers of PVB plastic interlayer. The laminate is produced by assembly of the various panes and interlayers. They are then placed in an autoclave and subject to a heating cycle or typically four hours, at a temperature of around 125 deg C and pressure around 12 bars. During this time the PVB bonds to the glass surfaces creating a single pane of laminated glass. This article examines the invisible protection laminated safety glass has to offer.
