The Far East region of Russia, known as the Amur region, is to invest heavily in the glass industry in the next 18 months, according to recent reports. Through the development of a number of special investment zones, the regional authorities hope to attract exterior expertise to help develop not only some of the province's latent raw materials, but also supply an upgraded option for their application. One of these is currently the Raychikhinsk-Darmakanskogo investment project to develop quartz sand, and ultimately a flat and container glass industry to ensure regional mineral consumption.
