[Russia] Schott To Invest $75M In Russia Expansion

Schott is planning to build a plant for the production of glass packaging for the pharmaceutical industry in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region, according to reports. The manufacturer believes that by the time the plant is commissioned, the consequences of the crisis for the Russian and EU market of pharma glass will be overcome. With this in mind, the launch of the plant is expected to allow the company to begin a large-scale expansion of its Russian market, where the majority of the proposed plant's production will be sold. According to sources, the investment in stage one, is estimated to be around $25/M, while the total value of investments may reach $75/M. DG of Schott Russia Sergei Mokhonko, said that in its initial stages, the plant's production volumes are expected to reach up to 350M glass bulbs and 250M bottles annually. During the second stage of the project, the company plans to significantly expand its range through the production of syringes, cartridges and other products, according to Mr Mokhonko. Schott will also consider launching the production of glass tubes for medical glass bottles.
