This article takes a look at the current situation for glass containers in Russia. The start of this decade showed a stable and rapid growth of glass containers for foods in Russia. Over the period 2000-2005, the industry's output grew by 2.2%, to total 8,160M containers/pa. Glass bottles are the predominant segment of the glass container industry, whereas the share of glass jars has been falling. In 2005, the share of glass jars in food container production was 12% (21% in 2000). National production of glass containers is highly concentrated in certain regions. Five holding companies are currently the most active players in the Russian glass market: RKM Glass Container Manufacturers Association; Ruscam (Sisecam); RASCo; Stekloholding; & OST Group. These five companies produce over 46% of the country's output.
