There is a long tradition of glassmaking in Romania - the first blown glass factory went into operation in the 1880s. The country has favourable conditions for the development of the glass industry including high quality raw materials. It has its own soda ash and natural gas resources and for this reason, over 90% of the local glass industry uses natural methane or petrol gases.
