Furnace ready glass cullet often contains an undesirable high amount of fine material which results from the high revolution speed of the crushing equipment. To overcome this disadvantage, Zippe have developed a new roller type crusher in which the rollers with the adapted crushing can rotate at a relatively slow speed. The low rotary speed of the rollers also reduces wear and maintenance. The new crusher is particularly suitable for the crushing of whole glass containers before transport or further treatment. A continuously controlled infeed to the crusher is not necessary. Crushing tests carried out on whole bottles have shown that 73.5% of the glass output has a piece size of more than 22mm, while nearly 2% were fines having a dimension of less than 3mm.
