The Role Of Fluorine As A Codopant In Cerium Activated Silica Glass

Silica glasses codoped with cerium and fluorine were prepared by plasma torch chemical vapour deposition and the effects if fluorine on the valency and emission properties of the cerium ions were studied. Codoping with fluorine was found to have no effect on these properties, while there was a marked effect from codoping with aluminium or phosphorous, as has been reported previously.
