Rexam Glass has invested £4.3M to rebuild one of the flint glass furnaces at its glass container factory near Gostyn in Poland. The move had led to the advancement of production techniques and technology at the plant and has increased output. With improved recycling processes in Poland, Rexam has also been able to increase the proportion of cullet used in the batch. Overall, the rebuild has cut costs, particularly of energy and raw materials, and increased quality of output. Janusz Hegyi, the furnace department manager at Gostyn, said quality had improved and environmental pollution had been reduced as a result. In addition to the furnace, the production hall was renovated to upgrade cold end ware handling conveyors and palletisers and to install new sorters. (whole item)
